In the Bible, Acts 20: 35, Paul tells us that Jesus said "It is better to give than it is to receive."   In Corinthians 9: 6 - 7, the Lord tells us, "Remember this:  Whoever sows sparingly, will reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously, will reap generously.  Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

There are many ways to give of yourself, including tithing through the church, volunteering your time to support mission efforts, volunteering to serve on a church committee, or helping another person or persons in a variety of ways.  Take a look at our Outreach section to find ways that our congregation is giving to others and how you might want to participate.  If you have any questions, please contact our Pastor, Reverend Dr. Cathy Northrup for ideas on ways to volunteer.

Ways to Give

Community Church of the Verdes has a history of faith based giving; i.e. we do not conduct annual pledge drives.  We do not have pledge cards, and we do not have weekly pledge envelopes.

Checks and cash received during worship services, mailed, dropped off at the administrative office, or made via "bill pay" from your bank, are deposited as instructed. Unless specifically designated, all monies are deposited into the Operating Fund.  Other funds open to special giving are:

  • Legacy Endowment Fund
  • Memorial Garden Fund
  • Scholarship Fund

If you choose to set up a recurring payment from your bank, please use the following address:

Community Church of the Verdes

25603 N. Danny Lane

Rio Verde, AZ  85263

The church can also receive gifts of appreciated assets, specifically tradable securities, as a beneficiary of life insurance, or as a beneficiary of retirement accounts.  Contact the church office for the form required to designate the transfer of the asset.

We are a designated 501(c) 3 organization for IRS purposes. The church provides an annual statement of all gifts received to the donor for tax purposes.

We recognize that many of our members and associate members maintain commitment to their church “back home”.  We respect and support this commitment, and ask that you also recognize the need to support the ministry and mission of this church as your second home.

God’s work continues through your support!!

If you have any questions, please call the church office at 480-471-7239.

Thank you for your generosity.

Financial Structure

Community Church of the Verdes uses Fund Accounting.  We currently have the following funds:

Operating Fund – Receives our undesignated weekly offerings and pays our operating expenses (HVAC, utilities, repairs, salaries, missions support, ministry support, etc.). This fund is administered by the Board of Trustees per our annual budget.

Capital Reserve Fund – Funded from the Operating Fund to provide for repair or replacement of capital items.

Legacy Endowment Fund – Contributions designated for the Endowment Fund are placed here. These funds are to provide long term returns to expand and enrich the mission of the congregation, to initiate new ministries or significantly change the scope of existing ministries of the Community Church of the Verdes.  The distribution will be based on an average of the market value of the assets for the three previous calendar years.  These distributions will not exceed 5% per annum of the calculated asset base, unless deviations from this amount are expressly approved by the Board of Trustees, by majority vote. These funds cannot be used for the daily operating needs of the church.

Memorial Garden Fund – Contributions to this fund are invested to provide long term returns to fund the perpetual care and operation of the Memorial Garden. Any shortfalls from the annual operating requirements are funded by transfers from the Operating Fund as authorized by the Board of Trustees.

Scholarship Fund – Contributions to this fund are awarded annually to scholarship applicants entering their second year of an educational institution that will allow the recipient to be a candidate for a degree.  Recipients are applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence, commitment, and service in or to one of the following institutions: NPH USA (formerly Friends of the Orphans), or Sunshine Acres. Recipients of the scholarship must not be related to members of the Community Church of the Verdes. Recipients will be chosen on a non-discriminatory basis, after review of applicants, by our Scholarship Committee and awards are approved by our Board of Trustees.

Spirituality and the Arts Fund –  Provides funding for our lecture and concert series.  All proceeds from ticket sales for the concert series are deposited into this fund and all expenses for concerts, lectures and Harmony speakers are charged against this fund.
